Hi, I'm Jeremy "Email Done Write" Waldron, and this is me...
Entrepreneur, mystery thriller author, professional storyseller, skier, hiker, fisher, camper, lover of wholesome foods and icy river swims; I'm dedicated to helping you achieve your business goals.
I've been in the publishing game for over a decade, managing my author business and writing page-turning fiction my fans love. For years, I struggled with finding my brand voice and figuring out how to tell it. Then, I discovered my HOG Method, and not only did it make my message clearer, but helped increase revenue as well. Now, I help authors become the hero of their own story so they can achieve their goals more easily, and do it in a way that is a lot more fun.
In
2006, I found myself half-a-world away, living in the Namibian village of
Uukwaaluudhi teaching English to grades six and seven.
I’d recently graduated from university and was set on seeing the world.
But, never in my life had I imagined I’d be living deep in the African bush, having to learn to speak a new language.
It was the adventure of a lifetime.
I was young (mid-twenties), and searching for my life calling.
Over the course of those three years abroad, I had so many first-time experiences.
Whether it was waking up from a nap to see a zebra cobra slithering down the tree I was sleeping beneath, or somehow crossing the border into South Africa illegally and having to negotiate my way back into the country from which I'd come, I was never short on entertainment.
Soon, I started jotting down my adventures, as well as the conversations I had with others, and turned them into monthly newsletters to send home to friends and family. I didn’t know at the time where my career would take me, but I was quick to recognize the importance of email and entertainment.
Authentic stories that educate and entertain. It’s that simple.
Everyone had an email address, and it was free to send. As long as you were on my list, you had a chance to read about my adventures as if they were your own. All I had to do was put my experiences into words.
In the process, I was kept sane.
It allowed me to make sense of a world I didn’t fully understand…
Even brought in donations from the States that changed the lives of many of my students.
And, in turn, I’d get emails from home, demanding I write more.
So I did.
As long as I could get myself connected to the internet, I had a story ready to send.
During that time, I learned the power of storytelling.
People back home couldn’t wait to hear from me, and I couldn’t wait to tell them more about my travels. I fell in love with writing and storytelling, and got a kick out of coming up with titles that would become the subject lines to my emails.
Like when I wrote home that I ate my dog. (which I may or may not have done)
That single email had the greatest response of all time.
I also shared life lessons, plenty of laughs, as well as a few good cries.
(I’m not ashamed to admit it! Ah, hell no. All the feels hit me at one time or another, and it created a sense of community I never imagined was possible).
Be real with your readers, and they’ll be real with you.
When my time teaching drew to a close, I wasn’t quite ready to leave Africa.
I’d fallen in love with the people and the beauty of the continent.
But it was also my newly discovered love of writing that kept me there a little longer.
I was hired to research and write the first edition travel guide to Namibia by a startup publishing house (think Lonely Planet…yeah, it was like that), and was given the extraordinary responsibility of single-handedly writing up reviews on where to eat, mapping out locations of attractions and places of interest, as well as where to sleep, what to do, and the best way to do it.
The challenge was immense, and by the time it was complete, I came home to a Great Recession.
It’s easy to look back and say it wasn’t all that bad, but at the time it was really hard for me.
I couldn’t get hired.
No one wanted me, and it seemed like my efforts to get noticed weren’t paying off.
I was a self-taught writer without university credentials.
But I kept at it, spinning my wheels, hoping to get out of my rut, when…
My brother introduced me to Dan Kennedy.
I read Dan’s Ultimate Sales Letter book first. It was interesting but, at the time, it didn’t really resonate with me. Then, I picked up his No B.S. Marketing to the Affluent, and a lightbulb went off.
I’d never imagined starting a business, hell I didn’t know how, but seeing as I had no desire to go back to school, and since no one wanted to hire me, what choice did I have?
So…
I started a website and began selling tours to Africa.
It took some time to build up, but soon I had my first client trip booked.
It was a huge win for me.
And when I booked another, I knew I could do this.
40% of all successful marketing campaigns come from how good the offer is.
Drawing from my past experience, and combining my intimate knowledge of place, I came up with a tour that I knew no one else in the entire safari industry was offering.
A marathon safari.
I didn’t know what would come of it, if anything. Were there marathon runners who wanted to race in the Namib Desert? I didn’t know. I wasn’t a long-distance runner (bad knees, man), but I had connections to the race organizers in Namibia, and knew where to find the best wildlife experiences nearby. I knew it was the perfect package, so I put it out there…
And crickets.
Life went on. Nothing happened.
Not a single bite.
Then, one day…I received an email from sporting goods giant, Mizuno UK.
They’d seen my offer and wanted me to organize the tour to run with a special offer of their own.
Bam! Things were finally happening.
My safari business was taking off.
As time went on, the copy I wrote continued to open up doors for me, and I eventually teamed up with one of the best US-based wildlife biologists to package some of the top high-end luxury safari travel on the market.
I was once again back in Africa exploring some of the world’s wildest and most remote places I’d ever seen. Whether I was busy chasing angry hippos out of camp, or being woken up in the middle of the night to hair-raising lion chuffing only feet away from where I slept, there was never a dull moment. My stories inspired other adventure travelers to want the same experience as I had.
But life on the road caught up to me about the same time my fiction started to take off.
All this time, while I’d been leading trips to Africa, I’d been working on my storytelling skills, writing fiction.
I’ve been publishing fiction under my own imprint for a decade now, and continue to write novels and short stories to this day, using the power of email to connect with my readers and increase sales.
I’ve also owned, and sold, an ecommerce business when I sourced product from around the world. I understand what it’s like to wear all the hats a small business owner is forced to wear.
Of course, none of this would have happened if someone had asked me to join a company in 2009 as an employee.
Being in the trenches isn’t all rainbows and butterflies.
It’s damn hard, but worth every minute.
More importantly, none of this would have happened if I hadn’t learned how to write persuasive copy.
It’s been a long road to get to where I am today, and though many things have changed, one thing hasn’t…
My love for writing.
I can explain a lot, put anything into words, but I can’t explain my addiction to writing.
I need it in my life like I need water.
I know what you’re thinking…
Jeremy, I don’t understand. Look at all that you’ve accomplished. Why not just write fiction and forget about the real world? Why take on the headaches I have when you don’t have to?
There’s a simple answer to that.
Because I know what it’s like to be you.
The sleepless nights.
The dips in revenue.
The worry that everything will fall apart tomorrow.
I feel your pain.
I’ve experienced it before.
The stakes are high when everything is on the line. I get it.
But, I’m here to tell you, you don’t need to carry the burden yourself.
I have a solution for you.
If you are an author, maybe even an author dipping your toes into starting an ecommerce business, and are looking to expand your messaging…
I’m here to help.
Together, I can help you learn the craft of email storyselling, teach you my HOG Method, help you sell more books, and guide you towards fostering a relationship with your readers, so that they look forward to hearing from you.
Whether you’re ready to work with me today, or simply want to learn how to do what I do through my in-depth trainings, I’m here to help you thrive.
As the saying goes…
Teamwork makes the dream work.
Let’s get to work.
